<p>This article examines the theoretical and practical aspects of creating unified data ecosystems and digital twins in livestock farming as a key direction of the industry’s digital transformation. Based on an analysis of current scientific publications (2024–2026), the architectural principles of building digital twins are identified, including multi layered and microservices approaches. Methods for integrating heterogeneous data sources are analyzed: Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, computer vision systems, wearable devices, milk spectroscopy, genomic information, and feeding data. The problems of data verification, ensuring interoperability, and cybersecurity are considered. A gap is revealed between the technological promises of digital twins and the empirical evidence base: it is shown that, to date, fully fledged engineering level digital twins have not been deployed in commercial dairy and poultry systems. Ways to overcome the existing barriers are proposed, including the creation of open and modular architectures, metadata standardization, and the development of hybrid models that combine physical and statistical modeling. It is concluded that the successful implementation of digital twins in livestock farming requires a comprehensive solution to technical, economic, ethical, and social problems, as well as the development of universal metrics for evaluating their effectiveness.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>цифровой двойник</kwd><kwd>экосистема данных</kwd><kwd>точное животноводство</kwd><kwd>Интернет вещей</kwd><kwd>машинное обучение</kwd><kwd>интеграция данных</kwd><kwd>верификация</kwd><kwd>интероперабельность</kwd><kwd>молочное животноводство</kwd><kwd>устойчивое развитие</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>digital twin</kwd><kwd>data ecosystem</kwd><kwd>precision livestock farming</kwd><kwd>Internet of Things</kwd><kwd>machine learning</kwd><kwd>data integration</kwd><kwd>verification</kwd><kwd>interoperability</kwd><kwd>dairy farming</kwd><kwd>sustainable development</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Brown Brandl T.M., Tao J.
