<p>The article deals with the changes in the system of specialized training of the U.S. prison staff to address the increasing number of persons with mental disorders in prisons. The author highlights the fact that the growth of mental illness among American prisoners puts additional strain on the U.S. penal system and determines the need for training personnel to interact with inmates with mental disabilities and intervene appropriately in crisis situations. The article studies practical experience of mental health training of the U.S. correctional officers within the framework of initial and additional education programs, presents the most popular courses at the level of individual states, reveals the content of teaching modules. Special attention is given to the requirements of the U.S. Standards for Health Services in Jails and Mental Health Service in Correctional Facilities for special training and duties of correctional officers.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>уголовно-исполнительная система</kwd><kwd>США</kwd><kwd>персонал тюрем</kwd><kwd>психическое здоровье заключенных</kwd><kwd>программы подготовки</kwd><kwd>содержание</kwd><kwd>методы обучения</kwd><kwd>кризисное вмешательство</kwd><kwd>национальные стандарты здравоохранения в исправительных учреждениях</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>penal system</kwd><kwd>USA</kwd><kwd>prison staff</kwd><kwd>mental health of inmates</kwd><kwd>training programs</kwd><kwd>contents</kwd><kwd>teaching methods</kwd><kwd>crisis intervention</kwd><kwd>national standards for health services in correctional facilities</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">[1] Дворцов В. Б. – 2016. – № 2(27). – С. 169-176.</mixed-citation></ref><ref id="ref2"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">[2] An Overview of Mental Illness in US Jails and Prisons.
